Turntables remain important source devices in many high-quality Hi-Fi systems. T+A offers two methods of adding a high-quality phono pre-amplifier to your system:The first takes the form of internal modules for MM and MC pick-ups which can be installed in R-series pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers or the E-series Powerplant. The second is the PH 2000 pre-amplifier, which is available as a separate unit. It is housed in an all-metal case, and features an external plug-type mains PSU designed to keep transformer interference well away from the sensitive amplifier circuitry. The voltage stabilisation and reservoir capacity (1000 µF) of the PH 2000 are highly sophisticated, and ensure very low background noise and interference levels. A permanently installed 2nd order sub-sonic filter with critical damping  and carefully tailored cut-off frequency ensures well-controlled cone travel characteristics.

The pre-amplifiers are of different design, aimed at achieving the best possible results for each pick-up type. The MM module is equipped with extremely low-noise precision BIFET operational amplifiers made by Analog Devices, whose circuit topology gives them outstanding sound characteristics. In contrast, the MC module is based on special circuits with bipolar operational amplifiers from Linear Technologies, designed to cater for the low output impedance of MC pick-up systems. Five input sensitivities and sixteen terminal resistance values / sixteen terminal capacitance values guarantee that these pre-amplifiers are capable of teasing the best possible sound from any pick-up system. The cases are very small and rigid, making them eminently suitable for locations behind the main system.
